Spring crop sowing declines in Kyrgyzstan

BISHKEK, Kyrgyzstan, May 24. Spring crops were sown on 376.3 thousand hectares across Kyrgyzstan as of the end of April this year, Trend reports.

According to the State Statistical Committee of Kyrgyzstan, this figure decreased by 37.9 thousand hectares, or 9.1 percent, compared to the same period last year. The highest sown areas are found in the farms of the Chuy, Osh, Issyk-Kul, and Jalal-Abad regions. The largest areas of spring sowing are allocated for grain crops, perennial grasses, vegetables, potatoes, cotton, sugar beets, and oilseeds.

Furthermore, the overall spring wheat sowing in the country as of April 23, 2024, accounted for 69.6 percent of the spring wheat area in 2023, with the average indicators exceeded in the farms of the Osh and Batken regions.

Additionally, in April of the current year, agricultural producers carried out fertilization of winter crops on an area of 68.5 thousand hectares and spring plowing on an area of 364.7 thousand hectares.

To note, the gross output of agricultural products in Kyrgyzstan amounted to 52.815 billion soms ($600.027 million) from January through April 2024.
