BISHKEK, Kyrgyzstan, May 31. Cargo transportation in Kyrgyzstan amounted to 15.771 million tons from January through April 2024, which is an increase of nearly 1.3 million tons, or 8.8 percent, compared to the same period in 2023 (14.507 million tons), Trend reports.
According to Kyrgyzstan’s State Statistical Committee, cargo transportation in April 2024 increased by 0.7 million tons, or 21.8 percent, year-on-year and decreased by 10.1 percent compared to March 2024.
A major share of the transported goods, totaling 12.874 million tons, was carried by automobile transport. Railway transportation accounted for 2.7 million tons, pipeline transportation for 191,600 tons, and air transportation for 10,200 tons.
A majority, or 61 percent, of automobile freight transportation was handled by individual entrepreneurs. The growth in cargo transportation volumes was observed across all regions of the country.
During the reporting period, the total cargo turnover for all transportation modes in Kyrgyzstan reached 978.8 million ton-kilometers, increasing by 8.5 percent compared to the same period in 2023 (901.9 million ton-kilometers).
