BISHKEK, Kyrgyzstan, September 17. Kyrgyzstan’s President Sadyr Zhaparov has proposed Germany to jointly create a Bishkek-based Regional Center for the implementation of energy-efficient and resource-saving technologies, Trend reports via the President's Administration.
Zhaparov made the proposal at the "Central Asia + Germany" summit held in Astana.
“Germany is also highly focused on climate change and the efficient use of water resources. In this context, we propose jointly establishing a Regional Center for the implementation of energy-efficient and resource-saving technologies in Bishkek,” he said.
The President highlighted that the joint implementation of this initiative would enhance the efficiency of resource utilization, reduce environmental impact, and ensure sustainable development across the region.
“Cooperation on improving climate resilience and transitioning to low-carbon development through specific 'green' infrastructure projects is becoming increasingly important. In this regard, we note the relevance and timeliness of Germany's 'Green Central Asia' initiative, including the implementation of the Regional Climate Adaptation Strategy. The transfer of advanced knowledge and technologies under this initiative will undoubtedly contribute to effective climate change mitigation and 'green' development across our countries,” he added.
Additionally, Zhaparov suggested considering the possibility of debt-for-green-project swaps as a new mechanism for financing climate and environmental projects.
The President also underscored the significance of the Kambarata-1 Hydropower Plant project in Kyrgyzstan, for which active efforts are underway to attract investors and technologies.
