BISHKEK, Kyrgyzstan, November 4. Kyrgyzstan’s Prime Minister Akylbek Japarov and the regional director of the World Bank (WB) for Central Asia, Tatiana Proskuryakova, have discussed the advancement of the Kambarata HPP-1 construction project, Trend reports via the country’s Cabinet of Ministers.
Alongside the hydropower project, the parties put their heads together to discuss the current state of bilateral cooperation between Kyrgyzstan and the WB, as well as the reforms being rolled out by the Cabinet of Ministers of the Kyrgyz Republic.
Both Kyrgyzstan and the World Bank (WB) expressed their readiness for further fruitful cooperation aimed at the socio-economic development of the country following the meeting.
The meeting took place during the National Development Forum 2024, themed "Human Capital and Sustainable Development."
To note, construction of the Kambarata HPP-1 is set to begin in 2025, with the first hydro unit expected to be commissioned in 2028. The preliminary cost of the project ranges from $4.5 billion to $5 billion, with a capacity of 1,860 MW. The Kambarata HPP-1 is anticipated to produce 5.6 billion kWh of electricity annually.
