Turkmen president: CIS countries should streamline their partnership

"During the period of its chairmanship of the CIS, Turkmenistan should make every effort to carry out targeted work to improve the efficiency of a mutually beneficial partnership in the CIS," President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov said at a government meeting, on Friday to the Turkmen government. Turkmenistan presides over the CIS during 2012.
"During the presidency of the CIS, we must exert all efforts for the successful cooperation within the Commonwealth in terms of how to implement existing agreements and the development of programmes for further cooperation," said the Turkmen leader.
At the government meeting the president was reviewing the outcome of the last one on March 19-20 in Moscow, which was the 53rd meeting of the Economic Council of CIS member-states.
It addressed the issues of integration cooperation in the economic sphere. Among them the implementation of the Interstate programme of innovation cooperation of the Commonwealth for a period up to 2020. Also covered were amendments to the Agreement on coordinated policy in the field of standardisation, metrology and certification, as well as a draft concept of liberalisation of the financial services market of the CIS countries.
Particular attention was paid to the main target macroeconomic indicators of economic development of the member states and the activities of the Interstate Council for the Protection of Industrial Property.
As part of the meeting was also held at the CIS International Economic Forum and the new format of the Eurasian integration during which they discussed the prospects of partnership in the sphere of communication and information, innovation and investment.
Officially Ashgabat in 2005, referring to the status of permanent neutrality, recognised and supported by the United Nations adopted the decision on its participation in the structure of the CIS as an associated member.
