Tajikistan considers Belgium as a main partner in the EU, Tajik President Emomali Rahmon said on Friday, presidential press-service reported.

The president said this during a meeting with Belgium's Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Didier Reynders and Defense Minister Pieter de Crem.

The friendly relations and mutually beneficial cooperation between the two countries were discussed at the meeting.

Special attention was paid to three areas of cooperation - cooperation in restoring stability in Afghanistan, the development of cooperation in Central Asia and the expansion of bilateral relations between Tajikistan and Belgium.

Didier Reynders stressed the importance of expanding the cooperation with Tajikistan. He invited Rahmon to pay an official visit to Belgium on behalf of his government.

The gratitude was expressed to the leadership and Tajik people for the active promotion to international peace-keeping forces in Afghanistan (ISAF).

Particular attention was paid to the expansion of bilateral cooperation between Tajikistan and Belgium, including the practical realization of the documents signed in February 2009 during the Tajik President's official visit to Brussels.

Taking into account the markets of South Asian countries, the parties called the establishment and development of extensive trade-economic and investment cooperation as the promising areas of bilateral cooperation.

There was a constructive conversation on the issues of integration into regional security, stability and combat the threats of the modern world, including terrorism, extremism and drug trafficking.
