At least nine law enforcement officers were killed and over 20 wounded in the Tajik Gorno-Badakhshan autonomous region during the special operation of neutralizing the suspects of murdering Tajik special services general Abdullo Nazarov, RIA Novosti reported referring to a source in law enforcement agencies.
"We have nine killed and 25 wounded, but we are confident that they have more casualties," a source said.
He could not determine the number of killed militants because the battle is underway.
On Tuesday, a special operation started in Tajik city of Khorog to neutralize illegal armed formation, which, according to security services, participated in murdering regional head of National Security Committee Abdullo Nazarov. Fifty-six-year-old Nazarov was killed on Saturday evening, two kilometers far from the city of Khorog in eastern Tajikistan. The general was returning from a business trip when his car was stopped by unknown people. According to the National Security Committee, Nazarov died from stab wounds.
