The annual review of political consultations between the Republic of Tajikistan and the United States took place yesterday in Dushanbe, Avesta news agency reported.

The annual review of political consultations between the Republic of Tajikistan and the United States took place yesterday in Dushanbe, Avesta news agency reported.

At the consultations the Tajik delegation was headed by Foreign Minister Hamrokhon Zarifi, Tajik Foreign Ministry's Information Department said.

The U.S. delegation was led by Assistant Secretary for South and Central Asian Affairs Robert Blake.

During the talks, the sides discussed issues of bilateral cooperation, development of economy and trade, ensuring a favourable investment climate, the state of human rights, including freedom of the media, religion, border security, as well as the fight against drug trafficking. Also on the agenda was the development of road and border infrastructure, implementation of railway projects, as well as water and environmental issues.

In addition, the consultation raised issues of cultural and educational cooperation.

It was noted that the development of long term, stable and friendly relations between Tajikistan and the United States are in the interest of both countries and will contribute to the development and promotion of peace in the region.

Summing up the results of consultations, the Foreign Minister expressed satisfaction with the discussions.
