Tajik President Emomali Rahmon held a bilateral meeting with Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin, who came to the Tajik capital Dushanbe to attend the summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, Tajik presidency reported.

The parties discussed issues of the strategic partnerships and development of multilateral cooperation between the two countries.
Vladimir Putin praised the preparation for the SCO summit and expressed his satisfaction with the increase in trade turnover between Tajikistan and Russia.

The turnover between two countries rose by more than 60 percent in January-July 2014, he said.

The sides expressed confidence that the bilateral and multilateral cooperation between the two countries aimed at strengthening of security in the Central Asian region, and strengthening of protection of the state border with Afghanistan will continue developing.
Rahmon and Putin also paid much attention to development of trade, economic and investment cooperation and implementation of the intergovernmental agreement on duty-free supplies of Russian oil products to Tajikistan and regulation of labor migration.

Moreover the parties touched upon the issues of regional policy and effective cooperation in this sphere.
