Kyrgyzstan reports shooting on border with Tajikistan

An armed incident has occurred on the Kyrgyz-Tajik state border, Information and Communications Department of the State Committee for National Security of Kyrgyzstan said, Trend reports citing Kabar.

At nearly 10:50 (GMT +6), while on duty at undescribed section of the border in the area of ​​Teskey, Batken district, Batken region, the border detachment of the State Committee for National Security of Tajikistan, having changed the previously used route, reached a new border guard line and demanded the the border guard servicemen of the State Committee for National Security of Kyrgyzstan abandon this section.

“Reinforcements came to the Tajik border guards at the place of incident. The border guards of Tajikistan, using their numerical superiority, tried to reach a new frontier,” the department said. “However, the Kyrgyz border guards didn’t allow the Tajik servicemen to realize their intentions, as a result of which a shootout began, which lasted about 10 minutes. As a result of the shooting, there were no wounded or injured from the Kyrgyz side.”

“A phone conversation between the border representatives of the parties immediately took place, as a result of which decisions were made to withdraw border detachments from the place of the incident until the arrival of border representatives and to prevent the deployment of other additional forces and means to the site,” the department noted.

"As of 11:45, the border representatives of Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan are negotiating," the department added.

The Border Service of the State Committee for National Security of Kyrgyzstan noted that the Teskei area is an undescribed section of the state border, but is actually used by Kyrgyz citizens.

The border units stationed in the Batken region have been transferred to a reinforced service regime.
