BAKU, Azerbaijan, December 24. The UN World Food Programme (WFP) - the world's largest humanitarian organization has published "Tajikistan Country Brief for November 2022", Trend reports citing the WFP.

According to the organization, in November 2022 the World Food Programme assisted 448,699 people in Tajikistan.

"Despite significant improvements in recent years, malnutrition rates remain high. WFP is currently contributing to the Government’s progress on 'Sustainable Development Goals 2', by providing access to appropriate nutritional support and health care, promoting school feeding," the message said.

WFP and the Government of Tajikistan held a national roundtable on the implementation of the national food fortification law and the next steps to further expand wheat flour fortification in the country on 17 November 2022.

Moreover, during the reporting month, a total of 560,6 metric tons of food assistance were distributed throughout the country.

WFP has been present in Tajikistan since 1993, currently the organization supports vulnerable households in Tajikistan that have been socially and economically impacted from COVID-19. Among them, WFP prioritizes those families that are chronically food insecure and rely mainly on remittances sent from their family members working abroad.
