BAKU, Azerbaijan, January 31. Construction of solar power plants in Tajikistan with a total capacity of 730 MW are planned in the coming years, Trend reports via Tajik media.

The following statement was made by the Minister of Energy and Water Resources of Tajikistan Daler Juma during a press conference.

According to him, the construction of five solar power plants with a total capacity of 430 MW is being considered in the first stage.

In the future, it is planned to increase this figure to 730 MW. However, the head of the Ministry of Energy did not specify the exact timing of the construction of solar power plants.

Juma noted that hydroelectric power stations remain the main source of electricity in Tajikistan. During last year, about 21.4 billion kWh of electricity was produced in the country.

Meanwhile, according to the Asia Wind Energy Association, the climate of Tajikistan is very favorable for the use of solar energy, with 280-330 sunny days per year. The use of available solar energy in Tajikistan can meet 10-20 percent of the local energy demand
