BAKU, Azerbaijan, February 27. Tajikistan is going to plant carrots in an area of 4,938 hectares in 2023, of which 1,770 hectares are intended for early sawing, the source at the Ministry of Agriculture of Tajikistan said, Trend reports with reference to Tajik media.
According to the source, the agricultural producers of Tajikistan harvested 499,170 tons of carrots last year.
Carrot is one of the main consumer products in Tajikistan. The vegetable is grown on vast and household lands of the country.
As the chairman of the board of Tojikmatlubot (Tajikistan's consumer union) noted, there are 100 tons of carrots reserved in the storage rooms and refrigerators of the union.
Meanwhile, according to the statistics, Tajikistan exported 5,600 tons of carrots in 2022.
Notably, as the Minister of Agriculture of Tajikistan Kurbon Hakimzoda said, Tajikistan exported more than 191,000 tons of agricultural products from January through December 2022.
More than 40 percent of total exports of agricultural products accounted for vegetables - 76,600 tons.
According to Hakimzoda, this year Tajikistan's Ministry of Agriculture will especially focus on growing carrots, along with cotton, potatoes and onions.
