BAKU, Azerbaijan, March 13. Tajikistan harvested over 7,664 tons of lemons in 2022, with the total area of land under lemons being 393 hectares, the Ministry of Agriculture of Tajikistan told local reporters, Trend reports with reference to Tajik media.

As the member of the National Academy of Sciences of Tajikistan, Professor Saidali Gulov, noted the cultivation of lemons could become one of the priority areas of Tajik economy.

According to him, there are a lot of land areas for the lemon plantation in Danghara town and Yovon district of Tajikistan.

According to the ministry, more than a half of Tajikistan’s lemons are currently exported to Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Belarus and other countries. Reportedly, the country plans to increase the production and the export of lemons in the future.

The cultivation of lemons is mainly carried out in two ways in Tajikistan: in trenches and greenhouses. The lemon yield from the greenhouses exceeds the one from trenches by two times. Currently, there are 7 types of lemon being cultivated in the country.

Meanwhile, agricultural production in Tajikistan amounted to 49.3 billion somoni ($4.5 billion) in 2022, which is an increase of 8 percent compared to 2021.

At the same time, as Minister of Agriculture of Tajikistan Kurbon Hakimzoda said in January, Tajikistan exported more than 191,000 tons of agricultural products in 2022.
