BAKU, Azerbaijan, April 11. Tajikistan plans to sow rice on an area of 10,725 hectares in 2023, according to the Ministry of Agriculture of Tajikistan, Trend reports via Tajik media.

Rice output in Tajikistan has been increasing annually from 2017. For example, the farmers of the country harvested 95,000 tons of rice in 2017, and increased the harvest up to 140,000 tons in 2021.

Tajikistan’s farmers are growing 13 types of rice in the country’s land. The rice annual consumption is from 12 to 15 kg per person.

The most popular types of rice in Tajikistan are “Devriza”, "Isfarinsky", "Tashkent", "Jubilee", "Laser" and others.

Meanwhile, agricultural production in Tajikistan amounted to 49.3 billion somoni ($4.8 billion) in 2022, which is an increase of 8 percent compared to 2021.

Tajikistan's crop production reached 33.9 billion somoni ($3.3 billion), and livestock products equaled 15.4 billion somoni ($1.5 billion).

Tajikistan's economy is largely dependent on agriculture, which employs about half of the country's total population. The country mainly cultivates cotton, potatoes, grapes, etc.
