BAKU, Azerbaijan, May 22. The average prices for vegetables in Tajikistan as of May 8 witnessed a 7 percent increase compared to May 1, Trend reports.
According to the World Food Program (WFP), the average price for potatoes in the retail markets of Tajikistan as of May 8 amounted to 6.1 somoni ($0.56) for a kg, which is an increase of 7 percent compared to the previous week.
Throughout the reporting period, the average price of carrots remained unchanged compared to the preceding week, standing at 5.3 somoni ($0.48) per kg.
Meanwhile, in the retail markets of Tajikistan, the average price for onions experienced a decrease as of May 8, 2023. It reached 5.1 somoni ($0.47) per kg, marking a decline of 10 percent compared to May 1.
The average price for cabbage in the retail markets dropped by 2 percent compared to May 1, totaling 4.1 somoni ($0.37) per kg.
Meanwhile, due to the beginning of the harvest season and an upsurge in product availability within local markets, the average prices of tomatoes and cucumbers declined by 13-15 percent compared to the previous week, the WFP reports.
In collaboration with the Neksigol Mushovir advisory organization, the World Food Programme (WFP) in Tajikistan has undertaken the task of monitoring commodity prices in various markets throughout the country. This process involves gathering price data through a network of field enumerators who conduct interviews with multiple traders for each commodity, enabling the collection of average prices.
