Tajikistan sees y-o-y decrease in petrol prices

DUSHANBE, Tajikistan, August 1. Average petrol prices in retail markets in Tajikistan from July 15 through July 24 increased by 3 percent compared to the preceding week, Trend reports.

According to the World Food Programme (WFP), the average cost for a liter of gasoline during this period was 9.4 somoni ($0.86), which is 17 percent less than in the same timeframe in 2022.

The lowest gasoline prices were recorded in Tajikistan's Istaravshan city, where one liter of gasoline costs 8.6 somoni ($0.78). As noted by WFP, this represents a decrease of 22 percent year-over-year and a four percent decrease in monthly terms.

Meanwhile, Ishkoshim area recorded the highest gasoline prices, with the cost per liter at 11.5 somoni ($1.05). Nevertheless, this figure also marks a 9 percent and 11 percent decrease in annual terms and monthly terms, respectively.

In terms of other fuel types, average diesel and LPG prices in Tajikistan increased by one to three percent compared to the previous week.

WFP Tajikistan, in partnership with the Neksigol Mushovir advisory organization, has been monitoring commodity prices in markets across the country. The price data is collected through the network of field enumerators. For each commodity, multiple traders are interviewed, and the average prices are recorded.
