BISHKEK, Tajikistan, August 3. Tajikistan has banned import of vehicles manufactured before 2013, Trend reports.

In this regard, the resolution titled "On the Prohibition of Importing Automobile Transport Means Produced before 2013 to the Territory of the Republic of Tajikistan" was officially adopted today by the Tajik Government.

Citing Article 14 of the Constitutional Law of Tajikistan "On the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan" and Article 57 of the Law of Tajikistan "On Regulatory Legal Acts," the government has outlined the following provisions:

1. The import of vehicles produced before 2013, specifically under commodity codes 8702, 8703, 8704, and 8705 of the Tajikistan Foreign Economic Activity Nomenclature, is prohibited.

2. The Customs Service in conjunction with the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Tajikistan is directed to ensure strict control, customs clearance, and registration of incoming vehicles in line with the resolution's provisions.

3. The previous resolution issued by the Government of Tajikistan on January 27, 2018, under No. 41, which pertained to the prohibition of importing vehicles manufactured before 2005, is rendered null and void.

4. This resolution shall enter into force after two months of official publication.

The decision to ban the import of vehicles manufactured before 2013 was primarily motivated by the increasing number of fatal road accidents involving older cars and the alarming rise in air pollution due to a surge in the number of imported vehicles.
