Transport sector receives largest share of state investments in Tajikistan

DUSHANBE, Tajikistan, August 14. Tajikistan is carrying out 82 state investment projects with a total value of 49.1 billion somoni ($4.5 billion) in 2023, Saadi Kodirzoda, the Chairman of the State Committee on Investment and State Property Management of Tajikistan, said Trend reports.

According to him, these projects include 17 energy projects, amounting to 873 million somoni ($80 million), and 14 transportation projects with a total investment of 1.315 billion somoni ($120.5 million).

Furthermore, the investments encompassed nine projects worth 260 million somoni ($23.8 million) in the health sector and 13 projects totaling 196.4 million somoni ($18 million) in the housing and communal sectors.

In the agricultural sector, investments were allocated for 3 projects, amounting to 88.4 million somoni ($8.1 million), and for 8 projects related to ecology and emergencies, totaling 81 million somoni ($7.4 million).

In addition, there were 6 education projects valued at 134.2 million somoni ($12.3 million), 4 irrigation projects totaling 77.5 million somoni ($7.1 million), and 8 projects in finance and tourism with a combined investment of 83 million somoni ($21.4 million).

Earlier, the chairman said that Kazakhstan had emerged as the leading contributor to Tajikistan's economy, investing $83.5 million in the country from January through March 2023.

Behind Kazakhstan, China held the second-highest position among investors, providing a contribution of $59.6 million. Additionally, Italy invested over $44 million, India invested $22.1 million, Russia contributed $20.9 million, and the UK, along with several other foreign countries, collectively contributed $12.1 million.
