DUSHANBE, Tajikistan, September 25. A project to build a 92 km-long road Kalai-Khumb – Vanch – administrative center of the Shighnan district is underway in Tajikistan with the support of China, Trend reports.
This statement was made by Azim Ibrahim, the Minister of Transport of Tajikistan, during the first high-level working group meeting on the "Tajikistan - Uzbekistan - Turkmenistan - Iran - Türkiye" (TUTIT) + China multimodal corridor, which took place in Dushanbe under the auspices of the Organization for Economic Cooperation.
The minister said that the project will contribute to the further development of this transport corridor.
During the meeting, discussions focused on the development and advancement of this international transit corridor with the aim of increasing cargo transportation and simplifying trade procedures, especially for landlocked countries without access to the sea.
The new route for transporting goods from China to Türkiye through Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, and Iran was first presented on October 18, 2022, in Dushanbe during the International Conference on "Logistics and Its Advantages in the Development of Tajikistan's Transport Connections with Regional Countries."
"The use of this corridor is effective in terms of reducing distance and transportation costs," the minister noted at that time.
"The advantage of this corridor lies in connecting Tajikistan's territory with China via a road, which contributes to the revival of the Great Silk Road and regional economic integration," he had said.
