DUSHANBE, Tajikistan, September 29. A total of 4.194 million tons of cargo were transported by railway transport in Tajikistan from January through August 2023, which is an 11.5 percent year-on-year increase, Trend reports.
Data from Tajikistan's National Statistics Agency shows that the majority of cargo transported by rail (51 percent of the total) was carried in the Sughd region, totaling 2.138 million tons.
Additionally, in the Khatlon region, this type of transport handled 368,000 tons (8.8 percent), while in Dushanbe and the areas under republican jurisdiction, it transported 1.688 million tons (40.2 percent).
A total of 75 million tons of goods were transported by all modes of transport in Tajikistan during the first eight months of 2023, which is a 13.8 percent increase compared to the same period last year. Of the total volume of freight transport, 94.4 percent was carried out by road transportation.
The overall volume of freight transport across all modes of transport for the first eight months of 2023 amounted to 7.4 billion tons-km.
