DUSHANBE, Tajikistan, September 29. Tajikistan plans to increase its power generation capacity by 4,000 megawatts through construction of new hydroelectric power stations and the reconstruction of existing ones in the near future, Trend reports.

President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon made the announcement in his video address to participants of the "Dushanbe-2023" International Investment Forum.

He emphasized that hydroelectric power, which is currently only utilized at 4-5 percent of its potential in the country, is considered one of the most critical aspects for further Tajikistan’s economic development.

Rahmon noted that Tajikistan is currently implementing one of the largest hydroelectric power projects, the construction of the Rogun Hydroelectric Power Plant, with a capacity of 3,800 megawatts. This plant has the capability to provide clean electricity not only to Tajikistan but also to neighboring countries in the region.

He mentioned that Tajikistan's potential for renewable energy production is vast, as the country is located in the so-called Global Solar Belt, with sunlight duration ranging from 2,000 to 3,000 hours per year.

President Rahmon emphasized that green energy and the construction of hydroelectric facilities, as well as solar and wind power stations, are among the priority areas of Tajikistan's investment policy.

The International Investment Forum is taking place in Dushanbe and has gathered over 800 representatives from governments and business circles from more than 30 countries worldwide, as well as international organizations.

The primary objective of the event is to showcase the favorable investment climate in the country, attract investments, foster collaboration between domestic companies and foreign investors, and promote the growth of digital commerce.
