DUSHANBE, Tajikistan, October 6. Farms in Tajikistan have been receiving substantial subsidies from the Ministry of Agriculture, in particular, to increase crop yield, Trend reports.

To support the work of the farms, the ministry subsidized them with 500 tons of elite wheat seeds (high-quality plant seeds with pure genetics and stability) and, 1250 tons of mineral fertilizers.

According to the Ministry of Agriculture, the distribution of quality seeds to seed farms in 2022 resulted in a successful harvest. Now, as part of the creation of a reserve fund, the ministry is supplying other farms with quality seeds.

Experts in agriculture suggest that more than 40,000 tons of wheat seeds of various varieties are required for annual planting.

Tajikistan’s seed reserves for grain crops in 2023 amount to 86,823 tons. Among them, only 37 tons (0.04 percent) are elite seeds, 3,679 tons (4.24 percent) are first-generation seeds, 21,205 tons (24.42 percent) are second-generation seeds, 25,586 tons (29.5 percent) are third-generation seeds, and 36,313 tons (41.8 percent) are regular or so-called conventional seeds.

According to the First Deputy Minister of Economic Development and Trade of Tajikistan, Ashurboy Solehzoda, the value of agricultural production in Tajikistan amounted to 18.7 billion somoni ($1.7 billion) from January through June 2023.
