DUSHANBE, Tajikistan, April 6. A total of $108 million was provided to Tajikistan under the Strengthening Resilience of the Agriculture Sector Project (SRASP), jointly implemented by the International Monetary Fund (IFC) and the World Bank (WB), as of the end of 2023, Trend reports.
According to the WB, more than 13,000 small-scale farmers have already received support with seeds and fertilizers under SRASP, which runs from 2021 to June 2027.
In 2023, the WB provided agricultural machinery worth approximately $2.7 million to over 70 seed-producing farms across Tajikistan under the project. This investment aims to improve the quality of seeds, particularly for cotton, wheat, and potatoes, leading to increased productivity and income for farmers, thus contributing to the country's food security.
It was noted that about 22 percent of Tajikistan’s GDP comes from agriculture, and approximately 50 percent of the population is involved in this sector, making joint efforts by the WB and IFC crucial.
Between 2015 and 2023, the WB has provided over $300 million in support to build resilience in Tajikistan through the International Development Association (IDA).
