Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov has severely reprimanded the head of the State Service for Drugs Aman Garayev, the Turkmen government said today.
The president ordered Mr Garayev to tighten up his department's work schedule making it more consistent and effective. He emphasised the need to further modernise the material-technical base of this special public service, bringing it up-to-date with advanced equipment and special technology.
"The relevant services were instructed to intensify their activity," the report said.
Turkmenistan is a partner in three international conventions on combating illicit trafficking in narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances, adopted by the UN in 1961, 1971 and 1988.
