Drugs seized by the Turkmen law enforcement agencies during several successful special operations were burnt in an area near Ashgabat, the state information service Turkmen Dovlet Khabarlary said today.
The campaign was organised by the government's state commission on combating drug addiction and state service for security protection of a healthy society.
Representatives from foreign diplomatic missions accredited to the country participated in the campaign.
'More than 193 kilogrammes of drugs were burnt during the campaign', the message said. 'This points to our country's firm commitment to the global combat against illicit trafficking and drug smuggling demonstrating the effectiveness of efforts to combat this scourge'.
According to the article, the seized drugs were shown prior to being destroyed. Afterwards, each of the participants could personally burn the drugs.
Turkmenistan last year was included in the UN Commission on Narcotic Drugs for 2012-2015.
