Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov appointed Turkmen Ambassador to Romania Shohrat Jumayev extraordinary and plenipotentiary ambassador of Turkmenistan to the Republic of Croatia, the Turkmen government said today.

Turkmenistan and Croatia are examining the prospects for cooperation in the fields of fuel and energy complex, industry, transport, communications and telecommunications, construction and tourism.

Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov's official visit to Zagreb in June 2009 was an impetus for the development of bilateral relations.

The final joint communiqué stated that Croatia supports Turkmenistan's efforts to ensure global energy security and to develop the mechanisms for reliable and stable transit of energy resources to the world markets.

Turkmenistan is one of the key suppliers of natural gas in the Caspian region. Until recently, the supplies were made in the direction of Russia and Iran. Ashgabat examines the projects of transporting fuel to India and Europe.

Turkmenistan considers Croatia as an important partner in the region of South-Eastern Europe and the Balkans. In particular, it was reported in July last year that the Turkmen State Service of Maritime and River Transport plans to sign a contract on the construction and purchase of two Ro-Pax car and passenger ferries with ULJANIK dd Brodogradiliste company.
