Turkmenistan, China discuss defense cooperation aspects

Deputy Chairman of the Chinese Central Military Commission Fan Changlong met with Turkmen Minister of Defence Begench Gundogdiev in Beijing, the Chinese media reported today.
"Fan Changlong said that further development of the strategic partnership between China and Turkmenistan meets the fundamental interests of the people of the two countries, contributes towards the maintenance of peace and stability in the region, as well as promotes common development," Xinhua agency said today.
According to the report, the cooperation between the Chinese and Turkmen armies in all spheres has been recently successfully implemented.
"Together with Turkmenistan, the Chinese side intends to continue maintaining high-level contacts and make efforts to bring relations in the defence sector to a new level," Changlong said.
According to the report, during the meeting, the Turkmen Minister of Defence said his country appreciates military assistance with China and is willing to constantly make efforts in this direction.
Turkmenistan's military doctrine is based on a policy of neutrality and defence sufficiency. Turkmenistan is not included in any of the military- political blocs.
Turkmenistan has a land border with Afghanistan, Iran, Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan and with Azerbaijan, Iran, Russia and Kazakhstan across the Caspian Sea.
