China delivers railway carriages to Turkmenistan

Ashgabat, Turkmenistan, Dec.19
By Huseyn Hasanov- Trend:

Turkmenistan has received the new batch of railway carriages from China, the country's Ministry of Railway Transport said on Dec.19.

The ministry received 49 second-class, eight compartment cars, as well as a diesel generator.

The target contract envisages in total, a supply of 40 compartment cars, 100 second-class carriages and 10 diesel generators. Passenger carriages are produced on special order from the Turkmen government.

The country is carrying out active work to strengthen the material and technical base of the rail industry, renewal and replenishment of its rolling stock and modernisation of the relevant infrastructure, the ministry said.

China is the main supplier of this type of transport to the Turkmen market. It was reported in February that the China CSR Corporation will send 154 passenger cars to Turkmenistan.

It was reported in November that the China South Locomotive and Rolling Stock Corporation Ltd (CSR) plans to produce two passenger locomotives for Turkmenistan. In total, this company has exported over 200 locomotives to Turkmenistan since 2004.

The length of the railway is 3127 kilometres in Turkmenistan. Its convenient geographical location is an important link for the Eurasian continent. At present, such a strategically important international North-South (Iran-Turkmenistan-Kazakhstan) highway is also under construction.
