Turkmenistan is interested in further intensifying cooperation with China in various spheres, Turkmenistan's Deputy Prime Minister Baymurad Hojamuhammedov said.

He made the remarks during the meeting with Deputy Prime Minister of Chinese State Council Zhang Gaoli.

Turkmenistan regards the development of relations with China as one of the priority vectors of its diplomacy and aims to further intensify cooperation in various areas in order to even more successfully work for the benefit of both countries and their people, Xinhua news agency quoted Hojamuhammedov as saying.

Gaoli, for his part, said China and Turkmenistan are strategic partners.

Strategic partnership and cooperation between the two countries has reached a high level in recent years, according to the report.

The two countries successfully cooperate in the economic sphere.

China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC) started purchasing gas from the Central Asia in 2009 (after the commissioning of the first two - A and B - branches of the gas pipeline from Turkmenistan to China through Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan. The third branch (C) that also runs through this route was commissioned in 2014.

Currently the work is underway to construct the fourth (D) branch on the new route through Uzbekistan, Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan.

CNPC received a license seven years ago to explore and produce hydrocarbons on the Bagtyyarlyk contract territory in Turkmenistan's Lebap province.
