Bilateral documents were signed following the Turkmen-Malaysian high-level negotiations held Nov. 8 in the Malaysian city of Putrajaya, the Turkmen Dovlet Habarlary state news service reported Nov. 8.
The report says that Turkmenistan’s President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and Malaysia’s Prime Minister Mohd Najib Bin Tun Haji Abdul Razak adopted a joint statement.
Meanwhile, a protocol was signed on making amendments to the agreement on economic, scientific and technical cooperation between the two governments.
The two sides expressed readiness to effectively use the existing potential for the development of relations between the two countries, according to the Turkmen Dovlet Habarlary.
Malaysia is one of the most important and long-standing partners of Turkmenistan in trade, economic and investment spheres, according to the state new service.
A long-term partnership with Petronas, which is one of the first companies that started to work at Turkmenistan’s offshore field, is an example of effective use of the existing bilateral potential in this area.
High technologies, banking sphere, urban planning, agricultural processing and food industry, tourism are among priority directions for cooperation between Turkmenistan and Malaysia.
The potential of ties in the transport and transit field was also considered during the negotiations. Turkmenistan considers Malaysia as an important partner in the Asia-Pacific region.
Turkmenistan will welcome Malaysian companies' participation in major national projects in the fields of transportation, communications, infrastructure modernization on the coast of the Caspian Sea, according to the message.
