Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan are intensifying cooperation in the area of electricity supply, the Turkmen Dovlet Habarlary state news service reported March 6.
Uzbekistan’s President Shavkat Mirziyoyev is on a state visit to Turkmenistan on Mar. 6-7.
“We are ready to intensify our cooperation as part of the project on the supply of electricity from Central Asia to South Asia via the Turkmenistan-Uzbekistan-Tajikistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan route,” Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov told reporters after negotiations with his Uzbek counterpart, says the report.
It was previously reported that the work is underway on expanding the export of Turkmen electricity to Afghanistan and Iran. Opportunities are being studied to transport electricity to Kazakhstan and Caucasus countries.
Turkmenistan plans to produce 27.4 billion kilowatt hours of electricity by 2020 and increase this figure to 35.5 billion kilowatt hours by 2030.
