Trump: US hopes to expand economic ties with Turkmenistan

The US hopes to expand economic ties with Turkmenistan, Trend reports referring to US President Donald Trump’s congratulatory telegram to Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov on the occasion of the celebration of the 28th anniversary of Turkmenistan’s independence.

“The United States of America hopes to expand cultural, educational and economic ties between our countries, as well as to continue cooperation with Turkmenistan to ensure the further prosperity of Central Asia,” President Trump said.

“I hope for a successful continuation of the partnership in the future,” he added. “I really appreciate the bilateral relations that have developed between our countries and strengthened over the past year.”

The White House supports regional gas pipeline projects from Turkmenistan, such as TAPI (Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India) and the Trans-Caspian gas pipeline through Azerbaijan and Turkey to Europe. The diplomatic relations between Turkmenistan and the US were established on February 19, 1992.

The legal framework consists of 59 documents, of which 53 are interstate and intergovernmental, and six - interministerial. During this period, relations were established with the companies working in such fields as the oil and gas industry, chemical industry, computer technology, energy, agriculture, transport and logistics. Among them are Boeing, General Electric, John Deere, Microsoft, Caterpillar and others.

As of May 1, 2018, 156 projects worth $2,573.43 million and 0.3 million euros involving the US companies were registered in Turkmenistan.
