Turkmenistan and Afghanistan have discussed the issues of increasing cargo passing through the Serhetabat-Turgundi checkpoint at the borderline between Turkmenistan's Mary region and Afghanistan's Herat province, respectively, Trend reports with reference to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan.
According to the information, a meeting with authorized representatives of the Herat province of Afghanistan was held at the Serhetabat-Turgundi checkpoint on August 31, 2021.
The meeting was also attended by representatives of banking, financial and medical organizations, other specialized and law enforcement agencies of the two countries.
During the conversation, the current issues of bilateral interaction related to the implementation of border, customs and phyto-sanitary supervision in the border areas, taking into account the current sanitary and epidemiological standards, were considered.
A separate topic of discussion was the intensification of work, in particular, an increase in cargo passing through the Serhetabat-Turgundi checkpoint, as well as assistance in providing the necessary medical equipment.
Earlier, representatives of the Foreign Ministry, the Ministry of Health and Medical Industry, as well as a number of specialized and law enforcement agencies of Turkmenistan met with authorized representatives of the Faryab province of Afghanistan, in particular with the governors of the Andkhoy, Khancharbag, Gurgan regions and the head of the Akina customs point.
The parties discussed current issues of cooperation related to the proper implementation of border, customs and phyto-sanitary supervision in border areas.
During the meeting, the parties agreed to strengthen the work of the Imamnazar - Akina checkpoint, taking into account the sanitary and epidemiological standards. Issues of expanding humanitarian cooperation were discussed.
