BAKU, Azerbaijan, Oct. 28

By Farida Nuri - Trend:

The second day of the 26th International Conference "Oil and Gas of Turkmenistan" opened with a session dedicated to the review of investment projects in the Turkmen sector of the Caspian Sea, Trend reports on Oct.28 citing ORIENT.

Speaking about the experience and prospects of developing hydrocarbon deposits in the sea, Director of the Caspian Sea Institute Myrat Atajanov stressed that the Caspian region is a subject of interest for a huge number of foreign companies.

Turkmenistan actively attracts foreign partners for the development of offshore fields in the Caspian Sea, he added.

Dragon Oil (Turkmenistan) Ltd, a subsidiary of Dragon Oil, based in Dubai, is developing the Dzheitun and Jygalybek fields, which are part of the Cheleken contract area. A lot of work has also been done here to modernize the offshore oil and gas infrastructure.

In April 2021, Petronas, a major energy company, launched the GDDP-A oil drilling platform (Garagol Deniz drilling platform) in the Caspian Sea, which will further the successful development of the oil and gas sector in Turkmenistan. The planned productivity of the Garagol-Deniz Zapadny field is 6,700 barrels of oil per day.

Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan signed a memorandum on exploration and development of hydrocarbon resources of the Dostluk field in the Caspian Sea.

The session participants agreed that the gradual depletion of the world's onshore oil and gas reserves made it necessary to extend the development of the seabed oil and gas resources.
