Branch of Turkmenistan-China gas pipeline may be laid through Central Asia

The fourth branch of the gas pipeline from Turkmenistan to China can be laid through the territory of the countries of Central Asia, President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov said in an interview with TRT World TV channel, Trend reports on Nov. 10.

President of Turkmenistan also said that the construction of the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India (TAPI) gas pipeline is strategically important among the current energy projects of Turkmenistan.

"There is also an intention to build a fourth branch of a gas pipeline from Turkmenistan to China in the territory of Central Asia," Berdimuhamedov said.

The TAPI pipeline project is being developed by Galkynysh-TAPI Pipeline Company Limited with the participation of the Asian Development Bank.

According to the project, the TAPI length will amount to more than 1,800 kilometers, and the planned pumping capacity will account for 33 billion cubic meters of gas per year.

The length of the Turkmen section of the gas pipeline, which began to be built in December 2015, will amount to 205 kilometers. Then the highway will pass through the Afghan cities of Herat and Kandahar (816 kilometers), through the territory of Pakistan (819 kilometers) - through the cities of Quetta and Multan and reach the settlement of Fazilka in India. The construction of the Pakistani section was scheduled to begin this year.
