BAKU, Azerbaijan, April 6. Turkmenistan plans to manufacture 2,300 tons of silkworm cocoons this year, Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of Turkmenistan Esenmyrat Orazgeldyev said at an online cabinet meeting, Trend reports citing Turkmenportal.
At the moment, contracts are being concluded with cocoon manufacturers, he said.
Last year, the state received mover 2,100 tons of cocoons from the local farmers.
Sericulture is one of the leading branches of the local agricultural industry and is widespread almost all around Turkmenistan. Meanwhile, more than half of the cocoon harvesting is accounts for Turkmenistan’s Lebap region.
One of the leading enterprises of the sericulture industry of Turkmenistan is the Ashgabat Silk Factory and the Turkmenabat Silk Production Association.
