BAKU, Azerbaijan, June 22. United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) actively cooperates with Turkmenistan in the information and communication sphere, a source in the UNESCO told Trend.

"UNESCO is focused on working with Turkmenistan in the field of communication and information. For example, it is planned to expand the UNESCO Memory of the World program, strengthen the capacity of teachers and youth in the field of mass media, information and communication technologies (ICT), digital skills and information literacy," said the source.

Since UNESCO is a non-resident Institution in Turkmenistan, all the activities of the organization are coordinated from the field office in Tehran (Iran) in close cooperation with the Turkmen National Commission for UNESCO, the UN system in Turkmenistan, as well as other key strategic partners.

"The COVID-19 pandemic and its ensuing global restrictions delayed the implementation of activities. However, to mitigate these negative effects, adjustments were made to some of the planned activities, and we managed to implement them remotely. We hope that with the improvement of the COVID-19 related situation, we will be able to advance further to implement the agreed projects," UNESCO said.
