BAKU, Azerbaijan, December 3. Russian Railways (RZD) subsidiary Russian Railways Logistics JSC plans to increase the number of regular container trains on the eastern branch of the North-South Transport Corridor, through Turkmenistan, Trend reports citing Turkmenportal.

Currently, the train runs along the route once a month, but the company plans, starting in 2023, to increase the number of regular container trains on this route to 17 trains per month.

The first container train left in October this year from Russia through Kazakhstan to the Sarakhs station in Turkmenistan, where the containers were reloaded from the 1520 mm gauge to the 1435 mm gauge, and then sent through Iran to the Bandar Abbas port, and then by sea to their destinations.

Furthermore, it was noted that Russian shippers have already requested a large volume of cargo transit through the territory of Turkmenistan.
