BAKU, Azerbaijan, January 23. Russian companies have shown great interest in the project of construction of underground gas storage facilities in Turkmenistan, Trend reports with reference to the Turkmen media.

This was stated by the Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation Alexander Novak at the Turkmen-Russian business forum, which was held in the capital of Turkmenistan Ashgabat on January 19 through 20.

He noted that Turkmenistan and Russia have agreed to continue cooperation in the energy sector and in the modernization programs of the Turkmen electric power system, and also added that, in particular, Russian companies have shown great interest in the project of construction of underground gas storage facilities in Turkmenistan.

Novak stressed that Russian oil companies are ready to participate in the development of fields in Turkmenistan in the format of joint projects.

Meanwhile, the Turkmen Government recently announced its intention to create the first underground gas storage facilities in the country and attract international consulting companies and advanced world experience to the project.
