EFSD gives insight on int'l organizations' financial operations in Turkmenistan

BAKU, Azerbaijan, February 25. International financial agencies and development organizations conducted 60 sovereign financing operations in Turkmenistan from 2008 to 2022, Trend reports with reference to the Eurasian Fund for Stabilization and Development (EFSD).

These operations on sovereign financing were carried out for a total amount of $1.9 billion.

A larger number of the financing operations accounted for technical assistance (46), following by investment loans (14). Financing in monetary terms was provided only in the form of investment loans ($1.9 billion).

The projects in Turkmenistan were mostly implemented by the the USAID (35 operations), the Islamic Development Bank (15 operations), and the Asian Development Bank (8 operations).

The largest volume of operations in Turkmenistan was carried out in 2020, EFSD notes.

The EFSD Sovereign Finance database covered 11 countries of the Eurasian region and includes information on operations financed by 10 international financial organizations: the Asian Development Bank (ADB), the International Monetary Fund (IMF), the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB), the World Bank (WB), the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), the New Development Bank (NDB), the Islamic Development Bank (IDB), the European Investment Bank (EIB), the Eurasian Development Bank (EDB), and the Eurasian Fund for Stabilization and Development (EFSD)

There are also six development agencies: the German International Cooperation Agency (GIZ), the Japanese International Cooperation Agency (JICA), the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC), the French Development Agency (AFD), the Turkish Agency for Cooperation and Coordination (TIKA) and the US Agency for International Development (USAID).
