BAKU, Azerbaijan, March 6. Uzbekistan is interested in increasing imports of textile, glass, chemical products, fertilizers and energy resources from Turkmenistan, Trend reports with reference to the Turkmen media.
This was stated by Deputy Prime Minister of Uzbekistan Jamshid Khodjaev, speaking at the 17th meeting of the Joint Turkmen-Uzbek Intergovernmental Commission, held on March 6 in the capital of Turkmenistan, Ashgabat.
According to him, by joint efforts in the near future Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan can achieve a multiple increase in the volume of mutual trade. In particular, Khodjaev noted that the trade turnover between Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan has recently increased 4 times and by the end of last year its volume approached $1 billion.
He also added that at the same time, it is important to coordinate actions to launch a full-fledged free trade regime, establish the work of the Shavat–Dashoguz border trade zone, and in the future - create a second similar zone.
Meanwhile, under the co-chairmanship of Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers Batyr Atdaev from the Turkmen side, the meeting considered the possibility of creating joint ventures taking into account the comparative advantages of the two countries.
