BAKU, Azerbaijan, May 5. Russian Railways JSC and Turkmenistan are considering the project of a regional passenger railway express on the route between the Turkmen cities of Arkadag - Ashgabat, Trend reports with reference to the Turkmen media.
This was stated by the Senior Deputy General Director of Russian Railways JSC Sergey Pavlov, at the international conference on "International transport and transit corridors: interconnection and development" (ITC 2023) on May 3, 2023.
According to him, the Russian side also offers Turkmenistan several projects on electrification, on the development of a regional passenger railway express.
He noted that currently, as a pilot project between Russian Railways and Turkmen colleagues, the modernization of the car repair plant in Serdar city has been jointly carried out, and also added that the solution of this task will allow several times to increase the capacity of this enterprise and ensure the maintenance of wagons and the modern level of transportation.
Arkadag city with an estimated population of 70,000 people is the new administrative center of the Ahal region, which is being built on an area of 950 hectares 30 kilometers southwest of Ashgabat.
