BAKU, Azerbaijan, May 11. President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov proposed using the capacities of the Turkmenbashi International Seaport on favorable terms in the interests of Tajikistan, Trend reports with reference to the Turkmen media.
This was stated by the head of Turkmenistan during the talks held on May 10 in Dushanbe with the President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon.
According to Berdimuhamedov, the mutual efforts of the two countries can and should be aimed at achieving the main goal – the creation of a powerful and modern infrastructure that ensures the integration of transport systems in Asia, Europe, and the Middle East.
He noted that in the context of the development of cooperation in this direction and the beneficial use of the geographical location of the two countries, Turkmenistan is ready to work together on a transport corridor that would connect both states with access to the Caspian Sea.
Shipping is one of the most important transport spheres of Turkmenistan. The country pays great attention to increasing the capacity of ports, purchasing new cargo ships, and launching new routes.
For example, the capacity of the terminal of the Turkmenbashi International Seaport in Turkmenistan has been increased to 400,000 containers per year.
Free storage of containers for up to 60 days is provided in the terminal of the port, and a cargo storage service in the "customs warehouse" mode has been introduced, according to which goods imported into the territory of Turkmenistan can be stored under control for up to three years without payment of duties and taxes, as well as without the application of various prohibitions and restrictions of an economic nature.
