BAKU, Azerbaijan, June 12. Latvia sees potential for importing petroleum products from Turkmenistan, a source in the Ministry of Economics of Latvia told Trend.

"Potential import goods from Turkmenistan could include petroleum products and mineral fertilizers. Turkmenistan possesses the world's fourth-largest natural gas reserves and is continuously increasing its extraction and exports," the source said.

Furthermore, the representative of the Ministry stressed that the potential area of cooperation between Latvia and Turkmenistan also includes the field of green energy, where both countries can find extensive opportunities to work together and develop environmentally sustainable energy projects.

"Both countries have a binding EU strategy aimed at strengthening cooperation in areas such as energy security, renewable energy, and energy efficiency. A potential area of interaction is collaboration in the field of green technologies, especially those related to climate change and environmental protection," the representative added.

At the same time, it was noted that Latvia's state administrative institutions are ready to participate in capacity-building projects by presenting their solutions and experiences.

Meanwhile, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Ahmet Gurbanov recently met with Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Latvia to Turkmenistan (with residence in Tashkent) Reinis Trokša.

During the talks, the parties reviewed the current state and prospects for further development of cooperation between Turkmenistan and Latvia in the political, trade, economic, cultural, and humanitarian fields, as well as exchanged views on a number of topical issues on the international agenda.
