UN Secretary General begins visit to Uzbekistan with Aral Sea

UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon began his visit to Uzbekistan with visiting Aral Sea which suffers an environmental catastrophe, Cihan news agency reported.

Ban Ki-moon arrived in the country on Sunday morning and went to Nukus - the capital of the autonomous republic of Karakalpakstan, located on the shores of the Aral Sea. UN Secretary-General was informed about the state of the Aral Sea. Then, Ban Ki-Moon went to the basin of the sea.

In the evening, UN Secretary General arrives in the capital Tashkent. The meeting between Ban Ki-moon and President of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov will be held tomorrow. The Secretary General will also deliver a speech before students of the Tashkent University of World Economy and Diplomacy.
