Norbert Jousten who was appointed as a Head of the Delegation of the European Union and the EU ambassador to Uzbekistan, handed over his credentials to the leadership of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan on Friday, the press service of the Foreign Ministry told.
It was stressed that both sides attach great importance to strengthening the political dialogue during the meeting in the Foreign Ministry of Uzbekistan.
The establishment of the EU diplomatic mission in Tashkent will allow to maintain political and diplomatic contacts during working regime and to deepen mutually beneficial relations.
Established institutional framework in the form of joint cooperation bodies covers almost all areas, including cooperation in the framework of the concept of further deepening of democratic reforms and the formation of civil society in the country, and plays the role of actual dialogue platform.
Cooperation in trade, economic and investment areas are important in relations between Uzbekistan and the EU countries
The EU as a whole ranks second in the foreign trade of Uzbekistan Mutual turnover increased by third and amounted to $1.6 billion on January - August 2011.
Some 841 joint ventures, including 218 enterprises with one hundred percent of capital from countries outside the EU operates in Uzbekistan.
The sides also expressed interest in investment in the form of advanced technologies for the production of competitive products on the world market, the press service of the Foreign Ministry told.
The two sides also exchanged views on other issues in the context of Uzbekistan and the EU interests.
