Uzbekistan increases energy exports by 1.8 times in 2012

Uzbekistan increased energy resource and oil product exports by 81 percent in 2012 compared to 2011, Uzbek State Statistics Committee said.

Differentiated data by type of energy and their volumes was not specified in the State Statistics Committee report.

According to the committee, the share of energy resources and petroleum products in the total volume of exports increased to 35.3 percent compared to 19.8 percent in 2011.
Last year, Uzbekistan increased its export of services by 1.3 times, the share of which in total exports rose to 16.2 percent from 11.7 percent in 2011.

Cotton fiber exports fell by 6.5 per cent in 2012 compared with 2011, its share in total exports was 8.8 per cent (7.9 per cent in 2011), food products - by 55.9 per cent with a share of 6.2 percent (13.2 percent in 2011), chemical products - by 8.8 per cent with the share of 5.4 per cent in exports (5.6 per cent), ferrous and non-ferrous metals - by 5.4 per cent with the share of 7.4 percent (8.1 percent), machinery and equipment - by 8.1 per cent with the share of 6.4 per cent (6.8 percent) and other products - by 51.2 per cent with the share of 14.3 per cent share (27.8 per cent ).

In 2012 Uzbekistan mainly imported machinery and equipment , their import accounted for 45.4 percent compared to 46.2 percent a year earlier, chemical products and plastics - 14.4 per cent (14.6 per cent), food products - 9.9 percent (10 1 percent), ferrous and non-ferrous metals - 7.8 percent (9.1 per cent), petroleum products - 7.3 percent (7.4 percent).

As reported previously, in 2012 Uzbekistan decreased the export volume by 5.1 percent to $14.259 billion, whereas imports rose by nine percent up to $12.028 billion. The positive trade balance amounted to $2.231 billion compared to $ 4.517 billion a year earlier.

According to 2012 year totals, Uzbekistan's foreign trade turnover increased by 0.9 percent compared to 2011, up to $26.287 billion.

Last year the main trade partners of the Republic were Russia (29 per cent in the total turnover), China (12.3 percent), Kazakhstan (10.2 percent), South Korea (8.8 percent).
