One of the largest Russian taxi services “Yandex Taxi” will begin to operate in Uzbekistan soon, Sputnik Uzbekistan reported on April 4.

Uzbeks can already download the “Yandex. Taxi” application from App Store and Google Play, register and get an SMS-code to confirm their accounts. Earlier, the application couldn’t be launched in Uzbekistan, notifying local users about the service's inavailability.

The application, however, doesn’t allow choosing a taxi due to absence of cars. Nevertheless, Renault Logan, Daewoo Nexia and Chevrolet Lacetti will be used by the service in future.

The first tariff, Econom, has already been presented. The minimum fare will be 2,000 soums per three kilometer. Additional 1,000 soums will have to be paid for every additional kilometer of ride in Tashkent and 1,500 soums outside the city.

Limit for free waiting will be three minutes, after which 400 soums will have to be paid for every minute.

The application doesn’t allow linking a bank card yet, telling users that “bank card payment is not possible in the region”. On the other hand, a promo code can be used already to get a bonus.

Exact date of service launch is not known yet. There are some photos of Uzbek car numbers with Yandex branding in social networks though.

Earlier, MLU B.V (“Yandex. Taxi” and Uber joint service) announced its plans on entering Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan markets after getting appropriate permissions.

Currently, the taxi service operates in more than 126 large cities of Russia, Belarus, Moldova, Ukraine, Armenia, Georgia, Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan and Latvia.

(8100.92 soums = 1 USD on April 4)
