From April 1, 2019, a unified system for registering mobile devices using IMEI (international mobile equipment identity) codes will be launched in Uzbekistan, Podrobno.uz reported citing a government decree.
The government stated that such a system is necessary for provision of consumers with the opportunity of using high-quality mobile devices, protection of the domestic market from import and sale of counterfeit products and creation of a healthy competitive environment in the market.
The new system will provide services for registering and checking the identification code of a mobile device online. In addition, it is planned to establish and operate regional offices for registering mobile devices and providing advisory services.
After the launch of the system, any phone brought from abroad, or ordered via an online store, will have to be registered. This procedure will be carried out online and will not take much time.
